Here’s what happens during a root canal, step by step:
Why You Might Need a Root Canal
You may need a root canal if: You have a deep cavity or Your tooth is badly cracked or injured or if there’s an infection or swelling near the root of your tooth, or You feel severe toothache, sensitivity to hot/cold, or pain when chewing
A root canal can relieve pain and help you keep your natural tooth — instead of removing it.
Step 1: Examination & X-Ray
Step 2: Explain you about the procedure, obtain consent, Proceed to treatment/ Schedule an appointment with the specialist.
Step 3: Numbing the Area- Local anaesthesia is used to numb the tooth and surrounding area.
Step 4: Cleaning Out the Infection – Remove the decay by drilling, remove the infected tissue inside the tooth, and disinfected
Step 5: Filling the Root Canals - The empty canals are filled with a soft, rubber-like material (called gutta-percha) to seal them, A temporary filling is placed on top until a final restoration is done.
Step 6: Follow-Up Visit for Final Restoration- After the root canal, your tooth needs to be protected and restored with a permanent filling, or in some cases, a dental crown.
Does Every Root Canal Need a Crown?
Not always.
Whether you need a crown depends on which tooth was treated and how much of the tooth is left.
We will assess your tooth carefully and explain the best option to keep it strong and protected for the long term.
How Long Does a Root Canal Take?
Most root canals are done in 1 or 2 visits, the number of visits depends on the condition of the tooth, Severity of the infection and whether a crown is needed.
Crown and Bridge Treatment: Step-by-Step for you!
If you have a damaged tooth or missing teeth, crowns and bridges are reliable ways to restore your smile, improve chewing, and protect your oral health.
Here’s what you can expect during treatment.
You may need a crown if: Your tooth is cracked, weakened after a root canal, have a large filling and need extra protection, or You want to improve the look or shape of a tooth
You may need a bridge if: You have one or more missing teeth or You want to restore your bite and smile
Step 1: Consultation & Examination- Examination, X-rays if required, discuss whether a crown or bridge is best for your needs, explains the process, cost, and answers your questions.
Step 2: Preparing the Tooth (or Teeth)
For a crown, the tooth is gently shaped to make room for the crown.
For a bridge, the teeth on either side of the missing tooth (called abutment teeth) are prepared in the same way.
This may involve removing some tooth material.
Step 3: Taking Impressions- an impression (mold) or digital scan of your teeth to create a custom-made crown or bridge that fits perfectly.
Step 4: Lab Work (Making Your Crown or Bridge)
Your impressions are sent to a dental lab- Skilled technicians craft your crown or bridge from materials like porcelain-Zirconia, ceramic, or metal- This usually takes 2-4 days
Step 5: Fitting the Crown or Bridge
Your permanent crown or bridge is carefully fitted, adjusted, and cemented into place - your bite is checked to make sure it feels comfortable.
Step 6: Caring for Your Crown or Bridge
Good oral hygiene is essential — brush twice a day and floss daily - Avoid biting very hard foods to protect your new restoration - Regular dental check-ups will help keep your crown or bridge in great shape.
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
Typically, 2 visits: one to prepare and take impressions, another to fit the permanent crown or bridge. Sometimes more visits are needed for adjustments.
Dental Implant Treatment: Step-by-Step for you!
Missing a tooth or teeth? A dental implant is a strong, natural-looking solution that can restore your smile and help you chew comfortably — almost like having your real tooth back.
Step 1: Consultation & Examination
The dentist examines your mouth and takes X-rays or 3D scans - They check if you have enough jawbone to support an implant.
Discuss your health, treatment options, timeline, and costs.
Step 2: Planning & Preparation
If needed, bone grafting or other procedures like tooth removal might be done to build up the jawbone.
You’ll be scheduled for the implant placement once your mouth is ready.
Step 3: Placing the Implant
The area is numbed - The implant (a small titanium post) is surgically placed into the jawbone - You’ll have some healing time (usually a few months) while the implant fuses with the bone.
Did You Know? Immediate Implants Are Possible!
In some cases, the implant can be placed right after a tooth extraction, so you don’t have to wait for healing before getting your implant.
Immediate Loading — A Faster Smile
Sometimes, a temporary crown or bridge can be attached to the implant on the same day as the implant placement. This means you can leave the clinic with a tooth instead of a gap!
Note: Immediate loading depends on having enough strong bone and stable implant placement. Your dentist will tell you if it’s a good option for you.
Step 4: Healing & Osseointegration
This is when the implant “bonds” with your jawbone to become strong and stable - can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months, depending on your case - During this time, you might wear a temporary tooth replacement (unless you had immediate loading).
Step 5: Attaching the Abutment
Once healed, a small connector piece called an abutment is attached to the implant - This holds the crown (the visible tooth) in place.
Step 6: Fitting the Crown
After the gums heal around the abutment, your custom-made crown is attached - The crown looks and feels like a natural tooth, matching your other teeth.
Step 7: Care & Maintenance
Brush and floss as you would with your natural teeth - Regular dental check-ups keep your implant healthy - Implants can last many years with proper care.
🕒 How Long Does Treatment Take?
Traditional implant treatment takes several months because of healing time.
With immediate implants and immediate loading, the process can be faster, sometimes completed in a day or just a few weeks.
Your dentist will advise the best option based on your individual situation.
